The sky appears to have different colors due to the scattering of sunlight in Earth’s atmosphere. The Earth’s atmosphere is composed of various gases and particles. When passes through the atmosphere, shorter wavelengths of light (blue and violet) are scattered more effectively than longer wavelengths (red and yellow).During the day, when the sun is higher in the sky, the blue light is scattered in various directions, giving the sky its characteristic blue color.

Closer to sunrise or sunset, the sunlight has to pass through a larger portion of the atmosphere, and more of the shorter wavelengths are scattered, allowing the longer wavelengths to dominate, resulting in the warm hues of red, orange, and pink.In essence, the sky has no actual intrinsic color, but our perception of its color is influenced by the scattering of sunlight in the atmosphere at different times of the day. more news

For something to have colour, it has to

  • Either emit electromagnetic radiation.
  • Or absorb a part of the visible range and emit the rest.

When you take a break from work, lie down and look up into the sky, all you see is dead and desolate oblivion.

Yeah, except for the stars, planets and galaxies which take very little space compared to the empty distances, what you see is nothing but void.

Hence the sky has no real colour. The colour it gets is due to scattering of light due to particles in our atmosphere.

  • Blue during the day.
  • Red, orange during dawn and dusk.
  • Prussian blue, to black at the night.   

All of them are due to the respective wavelength of light being scattered by our atmosphere.
